Herman van Kogelenberg, Principal Flute of The Munich Philharmonic, is a Dutch flute player who was born in Thorn, The Netherlands. At an early age he studied with Willem Tonnaer and went on to attend the conservatories of Amsterdam, Utrecht and The Hague where he studied with Abbie de Quant and Emily Beynon.

Whilst studying Herman van Kogelenberg was appointed Principal Flute with the Orchestre Philharmonique de Liege in 1999. He resigned from the orchestra to join the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra from 2003 until 2010. From 2010 until 2013 he held the position of Principal Flute with the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra. In September 2013 he was appointed Principal Flute of The Munich Philharmonic.

Herman van Kogelenberg regularly appears as a soloist, chamber musician and orchestra player in festivals throughout the world. He is a founder member of the Farkas Quintet Amsterdam since 1997. He has made guest appearances with Chamber Orchestra of Europe, Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra and Asko-Schönberg Ensemble.

A passionate and dedicated teacher, Herman van Kogelenberg is regularly invited to give masterclasses all over the world. From 2007 until 2010 Herman van Kogelenberg was professor at the Royal Conservatory of The Hague and from 2010 until 2013 at the Rotterdam Conservatory Codarts.
