Norwegian flautist Jørn Eivind Schau studied at the Royal Academy of Music in London and the Norwegian Music Academy in Oslo. As a 13-year old he became a student of the distinguished Norwegian flautist and professor Per Oien, and since the age of eighteen he has served as flautist with the major Norwegian symphony orchestras and professional wind bands.

From 1999 he was affiliated with the Kristiansand Symphony Orchestra, as well as being employed as associate professor of flute at the Agder College of Music in Southern Norway. Today he holds a full time professorship in Flute at the University of Agder, Faculty of Fine Arts. He regularly participates in classical and commercial recordings and performs in a variety of chamber ensembles.

He has a strong focus on research with several publications of articles, included the textual section of Hans Magne Graesvold’s collection “Instructive Studies for the Modern Flute” (2009). On assignment for the Edition Svitzer publishing house in Copenhagen, Denmark, he is currently working on a new edition of Carl Reinecke’s flute concerto.

Mr. Schau founded and has been artistic director of the Norwegian Flute Ensemble, Kristiansand since 2008. In 2010 he took the initiative for the founding of the Norwegian Flute Society, of which he is chairman. He was artistic director and coordinator of the First Norwegian Flute Festival in 2011, and the Norwegian Flute Symposium in 2012.
